LIFE RESTART VILLAGES

Life Restart - Regional Partnerships
Official Recognition at Village Level

The Life Restart model is implemented at the level of an individual village, which is regarded as a coherent social, cultural, and environmental entity. Each village is evaluated independently, based on its specific characteristics, the dynamics of its local community, and its capacity to sustain balanced and responsible development.

The Life Restart Label is awarded exclusively to a designated village following a structured and documented evaluation process. The designation confirms alignment with the core principles of the model, including sustainability, community cohesion, experiential quality, and responsible development. It does not represent symbolic affiliation, but verified compliance with the Life Restart framework.

The Label may be displayed by the respective municipality or regional authority strictly in the form in which it has been issued, always bearing the official name of the certified village. The designation does not automatically extend to the broader administrative entity and does not constitute general certification of the municipality or region.

PATHWAYS TO EVALUATION

All evaluations are conducted by authorised representatives formally appointed by Life Restart for this purpose.

A village may enter the evaluation process either through independent identification and field research conducted by Life Restart, or through a formal request submitted by a representative of the local community or the municipal authority.

In all cases, a unified evaluation framework and common standards are applied, regardless of how the process is initiated.

Inclusion is not automatic. It requires documented data collection, structured assessment, and a substantive review of the village’s characteristics and conditions.

INDICATIVE EVALUATION CRITERIA

The evaluation is based on a combination of qualitative, functional, and spatial parameters. Indicatively, the following aspects are examined:
  • Respect for the carrying capacity of the area (carrying capacity -> see Glossary)
  • Absence of mass tourism conditions
  • Active participation and consent of the local community
  • Availability of basic infrastructure and safe access and transportation
  • Direct and meaningful connection of the settlement with the natural landscape
  • Preservation of cultural and environmental identity

The full list of criteria is provided upon formal request for evaluation and includes mandatory compliance criteria as well as optional criteria that add further value.

Fulfilment of optional criteria does not alter the Life Restart Label, which remains unified and consistent in form and structure.

EVALUATION OUTCOME

Upon completion of the evaluation process, a documented outcome is issued.

In the case of a positive evaluation, the Life Restart Label is awarded and the village is included in the network of certified villages.

In the case of a negative evaluation, an advisory improvement report is provided, outlining the areas requiring adjustment or strengthening.
Following the implementation of the recommended improvements, the community may submit a request for re-evaluation.

DURATION, RENEWAL AND RE-EVALUATION

The Life Restart Label is valid for one (1) year from the date of its award.
Renewal is subject to annual re-evaluation, aimed at verifying the continued compliance of the village with the model’s principles and criteria.
Re-evaluation may be conducted through methods defined by Life Restart, which may include:
  • on-site inspection in the village,
  • digital submission of documented information or structured questionnaire,
  • submission of a formal declaration by the institutional representative of the local community, based on a predefined text provided by Life Restart.

The method of re-evaluation is selected on a case-by-case basis, depending on the nature and extent of any changes that may have occurred.

The indication of the year of validity constitutes an integral and mandatory element of the Label. Upon expiration of the annual period and in the absence of renewal, the right to use the Label automatically ceases.

SUSPENSION OR WITHDRAWAL OF THE LABEL

Life Restart reserves the right to suspend or withdraw the Label in cases of substantial deviation from the model’s principles or evaluation criteria.
Any such decision is based on documented assessment and prior notification of the local community.
